They scored their goal from inside the area. The keeper was equal to a lot of their shots on target, while the wide ones did not pose any threat. xT timeline shows that the first half was dominated by an extremely strong Shakhtar Donetsk performance. Even though Madrid opened the scoring first, the visitors did manage to equalize before the halftime whistle. Things took a huge turn in the second half when Real Madrid took complete control of the game. The hosts did eventually increase their lead which was enough for them to seal the victory. David Alaba attempted the most passes(90) while receiving the most passes with 77 as Real had 54% of the ball. The visitors had 46% possession, with Matvyeinko playing the most passes(85). Even Shakhtar played the majority of their passes near the centre in midfield, attempting six smart passes, with three being successful. However, they did not play too many crosses.
Real Madrid had the highest xT creation zones inside the penalty area on the left. Luka Modric was the most clinical passer with 97.01% accuracy. Vinicius Jr was the most threatening passer with 0.53 xT though it was lowered due to inaccurate passing. He was the best dribbler as well with 0.123 xT. Shakhtar lost most of their defensive duels. Domilson won the most with four duels, while Maycon lost the most with five. They were slightly better in the air at the back. Domilson won the most duels again(3), while also losing three duels. Matvyienko won two duels at the back.

Real Madrid cruised past a formidable challenge from Shakhtar Donetsk at home to keep one foot closer to the knockout qualifications. They are in a great run of form and showed that through a strong comeback performance in the second half. Shakhtar were impressive throughout the match, but their less clinical approach in the final third let them down.
