Transfer News: Real Madrid contact Moukoko’s representatives

According to the reports from Spain, Youssoufa Moukoko is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The German under-21 international could leave Borussia Dortmund once the ongoing campaign ends.

Youssoufa Moukoko is widely regarded as one of the most promising young attackers in Europe, with the teenage prodigy making quite an impression in Borussia Dortmund’s youth setup over the years. The 17-year-old’s exploits have also helped him earn plaudits and draw comparison with Samuel Eto’o.

Such was the promise shown by Moukoko in his youth days that the Bundesliga amended a rule for a player’s age to make their league debut. And the German under-21 international made his Dortmund bow soon after, although he has barely been a regular for the Black and Yellows.

Youssoufa Moukoko is a 17-year-old striker who is a regular for the German U21 team and was a prolific scorer at the club youth levels. The striker’s contract with Borussia Dortmund expires at the end of the 2022/23 season. With only one year remaining, his agent has dismissed talk of a renewal and instead is focused on finding first-team football. A move to Real Madrid would likely involve an extended loan period to meet Moukoko’s desire for more playing time.

The German U21 international has not been able to get as much playing time as he would have liked this season, but muscle injuries in both November and March have thwarted his progress. He has played just 475 minutes, scoring two goals and providing two assists. He made his debut for Dortmund at 16-years-old in the 2020/2021 season, featuring in a total of 3 Bundesliga matches. That same season, he scored 34 goals and provided nine assists in just 20 games for the U19 team.

For his part, the player is desperate for a change of scenery. In an interview for a club podcast, he said: “It’s a season I just want to forget.”

Real Madrid might need to invest in a backup striker in the summer transfer window, with Luka Jovic and Mariano Diaz expected to depart from the Santiago Bernabeu. Interestingly, Jovic has been linked with Dortmund, with the Bundesliga giants recently offered the chance to sign the Real Madrid outcast.

Moukoko is thus a viable target for Real Madrid, even though he will initially play second-fiddle to Karim Benzema. But with Benzema well into his thirties, Moukoko’s game-time will gradually increase before he becomes the first-choice striker for Los Blancos once Benzema calls time on his stint at the Bernabeu.
