The Belgium global was sent to Dallas for an operation on an ankle injury and is expected to return before Euro 2020.

Eden Hazard has undergone successful surgery on his ankle in a facility in Dallas.

The Real Madrid star sustained a fracture to his right fibula in the 1-0 Liga defeat to Levante on February 22, with trainer Zinedine Zidane confirming that it did”not seem good”.

The 29-year-old was sent for an operation in the United States as, according to reports in Spain, it was believed that physicians with experience of handling similar injuries sustained by NBA stars are best placed to give a long-term fix.

Madrid confirmed on Thursday the Hazard’s operation went as planned, under the supervision of team doctors, and he’ll continue to be tracked before beginning his rehabilitation procedure.

Hazard, who has just made 15 appearances and scored one goal for Madrid because his $100 million (#87m/$112m) move from Chelsea because of accidents, met Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic after arriving in the USA.

He’s expected to return to the Spanish capital in the coming days to keep his recovery.

It’s been speculated Hazard isn’t likely to be fully fit for three months, though Belgium boss Roberto Martinez has voiced optimism that the forward will play for Madrid this year and be fit to feature in the European Championship this summer.

“In the past eight decades, he has missed very few games but I’m convinced that he will return before the last match in La Liga this summer and will be a major player for Real Madrid,” he said last week.

Hazard missed his side’s first 3 games of the year with a hamstring injury before suffering another injury in November, which kept him out of action until mid-February.

He made two appearances in La Liga before he limped off at the second-half against Levante.

Madrid are currently a point before Barcelona in La Liga and are set to take on Real Betis and Eibar from the Spanish top-flight until they travel to England to Fulfill Manchester City at the next leg of the Champions League last-16 tie on March 17. The capital team lost 2-1 to Pep Guardiola’s team in the Santiago Bernabeu last month.
